Sorry, but hahaha, he cares a lot for this choir.

So yes, here goes. :)

There were ups and downs of the performance.
When I first stepped in to the studio, my first reaction was 2 mics at the side, the problem with individual vocals might be soft.
But I thought, it's a small auditorium, so it shouldn't be much of a problem.
Slight disappointment with one of the male soloists.
At one point, I could barely hear his voice, though when he sings with the choir, I can hear him.
Probably, due to distractions by the audience calling his name.
Mind you, I was sitting in the second row from the front.
Personally, I felt, most seniors performed quite well.
Especially the dancing part.
I can see most of them enjoying themselves.
Which is important.
You have to have that type of charisma, and make the audience groove too.
For the juniors, you need to work up the body language.
Though some of you can sing well, but your expression is a bit lifeless.
Work on that, and you WILL get better.
Don't forget, you'll be taking over the seniors SOON.
For the 2 emcees, you did good too, but you have to connect more with the audience.
By adding libs, which is not in your text.
It'll be an added advantage to your presentation.
Again I remind you, take this as a positive feedback.
You'll be having another concert again in 2 years again. :)
Remember, this is just a small auditorium, with a small capacity of people.
Your SYF, will contain a larger audience.

I have no idea how big the auditorium is, but the last SYF, which was held in Victoria Concert Hall, is huge.

The recital studio is REALLY small compared to VCH.

Hi Choir!

Here's some feedback from someone I know, my dad.

Hope you guys will heed this advice.

Cantare 3 is around the corner.
For some seniors, it might be their swan song.
This is the time to put in more effort, passion, and commitment to choir.
Don't get caught by humiliating yourself when it comes to the performances when your pitching and harmony are all out of place.
Or worse, making people walk out of the concert hall.
May I remind you again, that choir is a team effort, not an individual glory.
We all have one thing in common, MUSIC.
We love music.
Otherwise, you won't be here either.
Seniors, are to guide the juniors.
Whether or not they do learn the right thing, that's a different story.
Juniors, are to give their full support and anticipation.
And to respect to your seniors, conductress and teachers.
One day, you'll be a senior too.
And you'll pass your knowledge down to your juniors.
I last watched you performed at Orchard, Takashimaya Shopping Center for your caroling last year.
Seniors, I hope you remember what I said last year.
And I'll say it again.
I felt that you guys did better than at SCH, despite the fact that Orchard was way noisier.
I heard a comment from a passer-by, saying,
"What's wrong with this group? They can sing, but look at their faces, all never smile."
I believe she's right.
Voices and expressions all play a part.
Throw all your egos away!
This is not about who sings louder or who sings better.
This is not a competition.
This is not about who sings the melody or harmony.
EVERYONE is important, whether they're singing as the supporting part or the main part, to bring up the song.
We all carry the pride of AISS.
Your t-shirt says, "Sing from the heart, Dream from the soul." (Refer to the blue choir tee)
Let me add, SING WITH FEELINGS AND PASSION.
Only then will your music come alive and touch your audience.
Ladies, don't let the guys overpower you.
Guys, I think you guys sing better than all your other past performances you've had.
BUT, dont be complacent.

Dearest Choir Members. (Or as what I like to call you guys, pretty butterflies)

We're left with 3 more practices till we break off for our exams! So we have to make full use of our time to get all the songs right - the pitching, dynamics and lyrics. Show some sense of urgency! If you think that Cantare III is still far away, THINK AGAIN. (Really, think again. THINKKKKKKK.)

There are a lot of things to be done, and we would all appreciate it if everyone of us can just cooperate with one another. When one person talks, everyone listens. Don't open your mouth unnecessarily. We're running a Choir, not a night market.

You guys must understand the urgency of how limited time we have left. It is really really really very little. If you can't understand it, just listen to instructions carefully and stay focused during practices. Don't bring in any other thoughts to Choir.

What happened in your class during lessons stays in class.

What happened after school just happened, okay?

you should be focused in whatever you're doing.

Yohohohohohohohoho,

You know what guys,the discipline is just out of hand.The thing is there are time for talking , playing,i don't really know why but,u guys seem to have a habit of talking once Ms Ong stops.Its kinda very very irritating.Lets say if u guys waste 2 mins each time.It'll probably be more then 45 mins out of 2 hrs wasted.And lets take a only 1month:6 hrs practice a week ,4 weeks a month,count it out it'll be 18 hours waste in 1 month.

18 hours is alot ,lets say i practice non-stop.I can probably get around 5-7 songs like the back of my hand.And lets say we have 2 months left.With only ur wasted time,i can get myself totally prepared for a concert.

So,just dont talk when u stop,it'll hinder progress by alot as i have shown.They're planning to make u do physical stuff.Also the committee will kena , so dont make matters hard for them.

ps: Alot of the committee are new to their post,so don't make trouble,or else ...... you know wat i'll do

Hi people! How was choir camp? FUN RIGHT!! Hehe, actually I wanted to post some pictures, but I'll leave the job to Yuwen♥! Haha. Don't you miss the times in camp already? Miss the talent times practices? Miss the games and being tied up in raffia string by Kellie? /: Or those who didn't, what about catching peanut with your mouth, or gulping down 1.5litres of water? Miss climbing over the wall and almost breaking your leg? Haha, not the breaking leg part of course. In Sentosa, don't you miss the volleyball matches, building sandcastles and soaking your beautiful skin in the sun? Most of all, don't you miss the bonding that we went through these three days? It was beautiful, awesome. Oi, Choiricca and Epic Buckets, good job guys! But don't you forget, it's the journey that matters the most. And a big thank you to the Sec 3s, Camp Committee members, Sabrina, Yu Wen, Nina, Tian Jie, Ying Yang, Kellie, Cindy, and others, I really can't remember. Great great great job guys!! You might have screwed up a little here and there, but it was still great. Love you guys max.
I don't know about you guys, but for me, I grew much closer to manymany of you. Seeing most of the sec 3s sleep during the totally uncomfortable bus rides to and fro Sentosa, it felt good to see that they are doing their best, putting in their effort to organise this camp <: Now I have no idea what to say, but I really enjoyed this camp. Yohohohoho people,guess what,its me again.

One thing that I wanna say is about SC & Choir.

The thing is ,it is really saddening for those who are organizing the camp.They wake & come to school extra early,the stay in school so long they aren't able to go out with their friends.For what the reason,really simple: to try to plan things as well as possible so U can enjoy & have as much fun as possible.And you know what,they have to sacrifice even more time just to adjust it cause of SC camp.Even worse thing is,its their ONLY time going to do this & so many of u all are not here.It really hurts them that this is happening.Personally I think its injustice to the people who work so hard just for u all to enjoy.

Another thing i wanna say is about good attitude,the fourth & what i think is the most important thing to bring(the 5th is yourself but as Ms Ong said,if u didn't bring ur good attitude,its just no diff from not coming).Once I said '1 single part missing will mean the end of the structure.For us,everyone is like a different and unique part,and the choir our structure.' I'm gonna say smt to add on to it:If one part is weak or faulty,which is equivalent to some1 having bad attitude towards choir,the structure will also collapse.However if every single piece is polished & reinforced,which is equivalent to everyone trying hard & striving with the right attitude,what will happen then?Simple as what your common sense will tell u:It will be improved & stronger then ever.If every1 had good attitude,it doesn't matter if we're horrible at currently because i can assure u if thats the case,one thing will happen:in no time we'll be a good choir.

Last thing,this won't be lecture like fret not.Try to enjoy yourself as much as possible,doesn't matter whether are you coming for choir camp or not.If u are coming then its another thing,it'll be ENJOY YOURSELF TILL YOU DROP,HOHOHOHOHOHOHO.

Hello Choir Members :)

We are at our 2nd week of our June Holiday practices. Practices have been fun and interesting as well. We have gone through quite a bit for the past few practices, and I hope that you guys have learnt new things too.

Holiday Practices

The word Holiday just makes us want to have fun, scream, shout and just go wild. Hahaha that's what Holiday is to me. But for Choir practices, it's not like that. Sure, we have fun, but we need to be serious as well! :D Please, cooperate with your seniors. Dont put them in a difficult position. They are honestly trying their best to help you guys learn your respective parts. When they are kind to you/ joking with you, dont take advantage of that. They have their different tolerance level, dont go over the limit, okay?

Okay, so you might be thinking that with all of this things that I've mentioned, you'll think that Choir is just too strict. It's not about being strict. It's about having discipline. So what if we can produce good quality voices when our attitude is seriously unacceptable. If you wanna have fun in choir, which i know all of us want, we gotta put in effort! We need to put in effort so that we all can have fun, joy and laughter. Hahhahahha.

And please people, SMILE WHEN YOU'RE SINGING! :D

You'll look better, and when you smile, you'll lift your cute cheeks and you will be able to produce better sound! YAY! You seeeeeeeee, smiling is just so awesome. Dont you wanna do awesome things? :)

Hey people, Li En here! How were choir practices to all of you? I found practice fun, really fun. Aren't you guys excited for choir camp?! :D For those who didn't attend choir practice today, the choir camp has been changed to the 14th- 16th of June instead of the 15th-17th, please take note! We don't want you to go for the wrong date aye. Hmmm, please please please, attend choir practices! The attendance isn't very good. I know I know, it's the holidays and you find it a trouble to wake up early, don't you? That was what I thought when I was in Sec 1. But now? I find that thinking immature. People! C'mon! I gotta feeling that all of you will soon realise how much better choir is than other ccas! And since you've already joined choir, why not just put aside the argh, choir again. Choir sucks, so tiring, sing sing sing, that's all we do. mindset? Why not just try bringing the right, positive attitude and enjoy choir, it will feel really different! Yeah? Do me a favor mah! Enjoy choir! If I can, why can't you? :D Alright! Done ranting. I have not much to talk about, not like YY! I am not so long-winded. Hehe! Kidding lah, YY! :D Okay, goodbye! Yohohohoho guys

So how does it feels to have choir again?fun,wanna go home instead,feel like crap,tired or watever u might feel?So how was the practice like to u?Good,bad,boring,getting scolding&lectures,chatting with friends,super noisy or watever it might be like?I wasn't there,so i ain't got a idea how it was like.

Well though i don't know what happened or anything(well i was absent,retards will ask&i know there are plenty of them),but i'll still post a little of wat i think.

In activities that requires a group of people,be it sports or dancing anything & in our case chorale singing,there is 2 things.Common sense(there are certain people with none,trust me I'm absolutely sure)tells u,its quantity & quality.In different situation,places,time and etc,one of it might be more crucial then the other or at times,equally crucial.Three example are:when u have mics,u dont need to shout ur lungs out but u have to make sure u dont make much mistakes,or ur screwed.Another is if ur trying to ask a whole group of noisyheads to shut up.Who cares if u sing to them perfectly to keep them quiet,it probably wont do the job as no1 can hear u,quantity so happened to be needed then.The example is singing in a concert hall(like Esplanade),u need to sing loudly at the same time without mistake,both of the 2 Qs are needed.

However bear in mind,even if u have an infinite amount of 1,but too little of the other,its just useless.1gram of pure Uranium cant cause enough reaction like a nuclear bomb,1million party poppers cant cause much too.Same here,sing like ur talking to an ant with a mic wont do anything & singing like crap with 100 people wont do also.

Quantity & quality must be of proportion to be good.

Thats kinda just a little on my thought process.Have fun people,holidays are coming,choir camp is too.

PS:In fact i alot of my time thinking of things like above,its just most of it are physics.

Anyway,since the exams are now OVER,you all can look forward to choir being resumed.

For those of u who felt bored with choir.Better don't complain & appreciate the cca that u have when it resumes.

Also,those who went to Botanic Gardens,was it nice for u all.I hope u guys learnt something,not just sit there play psp or light stick.There were actually many things u can learn by seeing other sing,even those who ain't as good as u.Try to go to as many concerts as possible,u will gain useful experience from it.

Have fun,relax for the time being,sports day is near too,hope u all have fun with it.

ps:Anybody wants an unofficial choir outing,if there are enough people wanting to go(at least 1/2 of us all)then maybe

because there is no choir practice?

I hope choir can resume soon,so i can see & sing with all of u guys again.I'm unsure about u guys but for me i'm bored & i miss practice.

I'm pretty sure u guys enjoyed the concert at the Esplanade,they were good,so much that i even doubted that it was a secondary school choir.

Well i believe that we all can achieve those standards too,we're no different from them,we are all secondary school students,same as them too.Remember the song 'I'll make the difference' sung by them?If 1 person alone say i can make a difference,what can it do.But if all of us,together want to make a difference,of course we can.We might not be good,if together we work hard,we CAN make the difference.A single good singer in the choir will never make a difference in the sound&songs,all of us must try our best if we want the difference.

The things that differ a good choir from not so good is only 1 single thing.

That is Attitude,nothing else.The 1st thing we must have before improvement can happen is good attitude.Not only here but in studies,in sports,in almost everything good attitude is required.

Thats all i'll say for now,hope to see all of u soon,good luck in MYE too.

Ps:The weather is crazy these days,remember to drink more water so as to not fall sick.

YEA DUDE,today's performance ain't half bad,most of u guys deserve the credit.

I want to firstly Thank you,all for making it good.AT least those long hours we spent on dance steps and singing Weren't in vain.

Secondly,did u guys feel good after the performance?I bet most of u people did right.

Thirdly,remember there is much more room for improvement,we can be quite good,but we are never good enough.There is the year end concert,lets work hard for that one and make it much much MUCH then our performance today.For now,we can relax,but remember not to let the discipline go out of hand!

All cca will be suspended soon,so during that time don't get too rusty or forget everything about singing.Once cca resumes,it will be near the holidays,there will be holidays practice.Not forgetting to mention the annual CHOIR CAMP!!!!!!!Look forward to it(i do,everytime)!

It will be the graduating batch's last performance in the school,they will be stepping down soon.We must improve,drastically to compensate for our sec 4&5s stepping down.

Btw the concert on the coming weds,trust me it'll be good.Not forgetting to say that Ms Ong will be performing as well.I bet many of us cant wait for it as well,but don't forget we'll be at the Esplanade.There are concert etiquette(sorry is i spelled wrongly) and we'll be at a public place,representing Aiss.Having fun is 1 thing but please do behave appropriately as well.

Achievement day is next friday people,just one more week.

Well personally,i think that we should be serious already,there are time to play.I HEAR PEOPLE TALKING WHILE STILL ON STAGE,MS ONG ALSO SCOLDED U GUYS FOR THAT.Another thing is do u people have to talk everytime Ms Ong stops,DO YOU NEED PEOPLE SHOUTING "SHUT UP" or "QUIET"ALL THE TIME?CAN'T YOU GUYS JUST BE KEEP QUIET.ARE YOU GUYS SERIOUS EVEN ABOUT PERFORMING.

About our singing and steps,i think our singing and step ain't that bad in the ava,but in the hall,everything is different.I don't know do u people have stage fright or not but if you do,please tell us.Well if u are just afraid of people seeing you sing,let me tell you something.I used to be very very afraid of it too,but after sometime,i thought,'if i was to give my all,every single time,i dont have to be afraid of people looking,because all people will do is clap.Its either sink or swim,do well,or do badly.'

Another thing alot of you guy might feel is if u don't sing or sing softly,or do any thing wrongly,it won't make a difference.That is totally not true,1 single part missing will mean the end of the structure.For us,everyone is like a different and unique part,and the choir our structure.

Also,I will write down the golden rules for a performance

1)Always look at Ms Ong and follow,even if people are shouting ur name
2)Don't fidget,includes scratching,touching ur specs or hair or watever

3)stand in proper posture all the time,legs straight,around shoulder length,and hands by ur side.Doesn't apply if there are alot of movements like mama mia.

4)Never talk on stage or performing.Even in between songs or when ur about to exit or even after you exit.Only talk after u have reached the ava.When performing outside school,only after u reached the changing/resting rooms

5)Always be or look confident,even if u make a mistake,continue as if nothing just happened.

6)Wear your attire properly

7)Never daydream,it could cost u or us alot of things

There might be more,but this should be most of it.

to the sec1s about achievement day.1st all is that Ms Ong ain't lying when she says that sec1s are usually not allowed,in fact i didnt even know the existence of achievement day until i was sec2.Did u guys even notice that the sec1s from band were in fact not performing in today's rehersal.So be serious when ur suppose to,like during rehersals,when Ms ong is trying to teach dance steps.Sometimes u guys can have fun,but remember,times to be serious and times to have fun is different.

Another thing is listen to your seniors,I don't care whether u are the child of bill gates or Obama don't you talk talk back to them,especially when they are telling u ur mistakes,or trying to correct anything,unless u are telling me u absolutely correct however thats probably not the case almost all the time.

U guys might think that we shouldn't have abit of extra practicing,u might think its pointless but,let me ask YOU.

Are you good enough?If yes then continue to be better

Do you practice at home?None of u do this

Do you think you are very good?wake up sec1s,u don't even know what is good

Today's noise level was

Hello AI choristers!

Choristers, I understand that you people are tired. Getting scoldings almost all the practices doesn't make anyone of us feeling happy. When you think you are tired, everyone are tired. Miss Ong, Committee members, we are all tired. But we are all still standing strong and do what we can. So why not we put in more effort into singing. This schedule for our practices are not tiring at all. Last year, Syf yea, Cantare II, those times, the practices are tight. But didn't we all survive and enjoy every moment of it?

Where did our passion for singing gone to? Where is "Sing from the Heart, Dream from the soul" go? Didn't everyone carry that passion and vision to Choir? If you have lost them, let's work hard together and find them back. (: As we are a choir, not an individual.

So, let's all work hard together! Sec 1s, if you guys are not interested in joining the achievement day performance, its fine with us. You guys are really fortunate, cause u can ask your seniors. None of them are allowed to perform in achievement day when they are sec1, even if there is, only one or two. So you people are given the opportunity, cherish them. Every performance you have here in aichoir, is an opportunity for you. So let's all work hard together. :D

Seriously,our progress is like so slow.

If u think we can make it for achievement day at

Achievement day performance is coming,

we must be more disciplined.

Listen to Ms Ong's instructions,once she stop us,it means she's gonna say something,do not talk right after she stops us. She isn't stopping us to let us talk. Once she stops, means something is wrong.

Also PLEASE take the sectionals seriously.

Sectional is not a time for you to relax,it is for us to secure the parts previously taught,clear all the problems/parts that you do not understand, and improving it.

If we are more disciplined,our progress will be much faster,our songs will be more secure. We can move on faster and learn more new songs, this prepare us for our End Year concert too.

Once we are disciplined, it saves us alot of trouble as we do not have to ask people to shut up. sometimes "shhhhh~" are getting a little annoying too.

P.S Do not disappoint Ms Ong,

We can do it,show her we can.

the choir break is overrr! its time for us to start our engine and start to sing. :) There is two performances out at dec waiting for us! we must work hard okay! :D Like what wip had said, those little sweat and tears is no comparisons to what we are going to achieved! so lets JIAYOU tgt kay?

The holiday schedules are really pretty much and long, but it will be okay. All of us will enjoy at the end of the performance. :) we will be HIGH and SMILING and enjoying all the christmas spirits. So, what we have to do now, is to enjoyyy and practice and get to the standard. :)

as now is the exams period. All CCAs are having a break. so yeap, I hope all of you will study hard and get/achieve very good results in the coming eoy. :D

For the sec1s, hmm..although u are still sec1, u still have to study hard okay! :D get good results! :DDD

For the sec2s, WOWW. u all have to work extremely hard for the eoy! cos, this is ur streaming year. ur streaming results are all depending on this SA2 results. so JIAYOU JIAYOU JIAYOUS okay! get into the streams u want! i have been thru it alrd. so yeap, work hard! :D

For the Sec3s, hahahaha! streaming is over. but, whether we can still hold on to our subjects combinations depends on SA2 too. so ppl, lets jiayous together! :D we will achieve and stay where we are after eoy! so jiayous ppl! we can do it! :D

for the sec4s, hees, ur shud be working hard on ur Big Os. so GOOD LUCK! :D

on this coming saturday, 8 August 2009, we choir are going to watch a concert by voices of lisbon chamber choir. :) since it is almost all the choir ppl are going, we can called it a mini choir outing! hahah! :D okay, time to say the main thing.

Everybody that is going to the concert had to reach VCH by 4.30pm. u can assemble at the Sir Stamford Raffles there. :) u can talk/play cards with him. :P

For those ppl that are going tgt with me and cheryl, please meet at Yishun MRT station at 3pm. :) we will be waiting for 30mins the most. so NO LATECOMERS. :)

so ppl that are going themselves with their frends, please rmb to reach VCH by 4.30pm. we will not be entertaining any late-comers. As we still have to collect tickets from Ms Ong. :)

Sec 1s,
you guys may take some time to adapt to the sudden change of increase in subjects.
To the change of your environment, with new classmates, new friends, new teachers.

Frankly speaking, when i first became an AI student myself,
i hated AI. I find AI yucky.

I missed my primary school friends. I wanted to be with my primary school friends.
I wanted my primary school teachers. I had no idea that a new life, a new study environment would be so.. foreign for me.
The change was so drastic that initially i couldnt cope at all.

But it was after shutting myself up, that i realised that it is not the world that is not accepting me, but I who was not embracing the new changes in my life.

Perhaps like some of you guys, i even thought of quitting AI Choir (nah, just kidding. Coz i had no friends.. but the seniors were really nice to me). It felt so different. I was a senior, but i became a junior instead. Warm-ups were different. Environments are different. I felt like an alien. A lost sheep. A marsian among the humans.

Everything was so different. I felt different. I didnt know what to do. I felt lost. Confused.

Im sure im not the only one who felt this way. The seniors had came a long way, we persevered. Endured. And here we are. We are proud to call ourselves AI choristers. We were no quitters.

Thus, sec 1s, just endure. Hang on. At least for the 4 years. 4 years aint long. Grip on, muster every tinge of courage you could and overcome all odds.

Dear sec 2s,
this would be your streaming year. I had my last SYF on my streaming year too.

Perhaps, what we feel are different.

From the smiles on your faces, the glimmer in your eyes, i can feel your enthusiasm. Well, you guys cared for AI choir more than i had ever cared when i was sec 2. When i was in sec 2, i still didnt feel lke i belong in AI choir. But you guys do, isnt it? From your blog entries, i feel happy that AI choir has become part of your lives.. it wasnt part of my life two years back.

Some of you guys have been eyeing for positions in the committee. Well, its not a bad thing per se. I feel happy and sad that you guys are well, aspired to be in the committee. Happy because this means you guys are probably more pro-active. Sad because.. hey, you guys really want to see us leave this much, is it?

You guys, our dear dear sec 2s, are the most enthusiastic bunch of people in choir! You guys were so loud, so cheery and happy that it brightened up the AVA. Interesting and funny people we have, like YY, who burps every now and then. Tj, who often argues with the seniors. Nina and Sabrina, the siamese twins. Yu Wen, the pianist who fights for the piano. Jia Ling, the gentle one. Alfiah and Lucretia, often free with their praises. And so many more.

And for the people who are not in the committee, please continue to work hard.
& Make AI Choir a home for everyone.

You guys have made AI Choir a much colourful home for us all. =)

Dear Sec 3s,
WAHAHAHAAAAA.
Your last and only SYF in your secondary school life.

I wonder how are you guys coping in a new class?

I pray that you guys wont mess up your sec 3 lives like mine. Mine was totally screwed up. But it was my turning point too. It was during sec 3 where i realised that i really love AI choir.

Well, you guys looked oh-so-innocent when you first joined up. Little did i know you guys would blossomed into .... ay, imps, princesses, knights in shining armours and elves. In my opinion, there is a clear distinction among the sec 3 sections. Sopranos - the bimbotic section. Altos - the strong headed group. And guys - .. a mish-mash of meeky and geeky guys.

Hahaha.
Well, thats my opinion.

Take bing cheng for example. He was shorter than me when he just joined. Now, he is taller than me, rising to a staggering 1.75 m in 3 years. Becoming better looking, winning the hearts of the girls in choir. Even had a cheer dedicated for him. Tsk tsk tsk. (Somehow, i think tj is jealous! haha.)

Many of you have grown.
Have changed. For the better (hopefully not for the worse).

o lvl is just a year away.
It will be your turn to step down next year.

Treasure and cherish the time you have in AI Choir.
Leave no tears of regret.
Leave no tears of rue.

Dear Sec fours,
We have never been really close.

But let us work work work damn damn damn hard hard hard for the sake of Miss Ong, for the teachers, for the alumni, for our juniors, for our CCA, for ourselves!

2009 would be our last year in AI.
Our last few months in AI, how would it be like? I wonder.

Things may look bleak now.
Some of us have lost hope. We have even lost ourselves in the midst of our struggles.

Our Mein Kampf.
Our battle, our struggle.
Will we triump or will we concede defeat?

I dont know.
The only thing i am sure if none of us would want to head for a losing battle.

We were once juniors. We are now seniors. Very soon, we will be alumni (hopefully..).

Things come and go.
Memories are fleeting images of the past. That come and go.
The future is daunting.
The past is malleable.

We sing from our hearts, and dream from our souls.
And we shall continue singing. Even after we have grown out of our choir uniforms.

hello peeps. i bet ur are quite unhappy with the sudden cancelled of our outing to semb park on the second day of camp due to the weather. but its okay. :D we have another outing! but it is not compulsary. u can come if u are able to. :D

HELLO, AI CHOIR!!!

Ah-hem. Sorry. It's just that it has been rather quiet here in cyberspace. ~~I wish I could say the same for our choir practices...~~

First of all, on behalf of the blog "staff" (a very small one if I do say so myself), thank you so much for your invaluable support. When the idea of a choir blog was first suggested, we were afraid that it would die as swiftly as it was created. But thanks to you guys, our tagboard is still going strong! *coughs*unlike our discipline*coughs*

So, THANK YOU VERY MUCH!!! xD

Okay, back to business. The choir day camp is starting next Monday. Yet, please come in proper attire and bring your water bottle, scores and stationery. Each group will also be receiving new scores and they'll have until Wednesday to figure them out + put a something extra to it. No pressure, guys, and remember to have fun! xD

To all sec 4s (graduating or not), please take note that the 3rd day (17/6/09) of the camp is COMPULSORY. If any of you cannot make it, inform the teachers-in-charge. Besides, it would be a great loss if you were to miss the talent time, yes?

The 3rd day of the choir camp would also be the day in which most of the sec 4 seniors are stepping down. Are those cheers I hear in the background???

And the sec 3s will be stepping up! So it would be a very exciting day which all of us are looking forward to. Of course, this also means that there will be new bloggers taking over. I wonder what's the first thing they'd do... Maybe they'll come up with a new blogskin to mark the new beginnings.

To end off, I would like to post a teamwork quote to remind everyone the importance of working together. As we found out, rhytym is one of our worst points in SYF. So one way to improve it is to listen to other sections. When Ms Ong is working on one section, why don't we all just keep quiet and listen to them instead of crapping about? That would save your future leaders and Ms Ong a lot of trouble.

People,
discipline has alright lately, but attitude has been terrible.

You guys may be sick of hearing us repeating this all the time, but SYF is not everything.
It does not mean that after SYF, we have all the time to slack slack and slack till the next one. It does not mean that we give in our best, only for SYF. SYF is not the only goal we are working towards to. Please remember that.

We love singing.
Isnt that why we are all in choir?
CANTARE!
For music, for art, for growth. Not purely for SYF.
I think we have all forgotten that.

And please,
do not let SYF kill your love for the art of singing. Your body language and attitude are screaming, "SYF OVER! CAN SLACK! WOOHOO!!! CAN HECK CARE CHOIR OREDI!"
and some are, "Aiya.. sing sing sing for what? So tiring, cant even sit down..sianxz.." and
"Such a waste of time.. so boring.. Zzzz."

People, how can we even cultivate our love for singing with attitude like that? No, we are not only cultivating our love for singing, but also mature as a person and a better singer.

Things to take note:

1. If you're unable to attend any of these practices, please inform your respective SL and ASL beforehand. A parent's letter is required.

2. Unless of course, you're ill. If you fall sick on any of the days above, please telephone your respective SL or ASL. Bring a Medical Certificate to the next practice.

3. If you're going overseas and are missing any of these practices, kindly inform your respective SL and ASL. Bring your passport or a photocopy of it to the next practice for your SL to check.

4. The choir camp is not an overnight camp. So please don't get the wrong idea.

5. Secondary 4 students are only required to attend the Combine practices.

6. On 1/6, Monday, there will be O level examinations taking place. So please cooperate with the committee members and minimise the noise level as you guys move out of the AVA to your respective sectional venue. Oh, and don't slam the AVA door.

7. Don't forget to bring your scores, stationery and water bottle!

8. Don't forget to bring back your scores, stationery and water bottle. The fining system is still in place.

9. Be on your best behaviour at all times. Discipline is very important.

10. Since the choir camp is still being planned, why don't we help the sec 3s in brainstorming for ideas? If any of you have any suggestions for the choir camp, feel free to tell any of the committee members.

Please take note that there will be a short choir practice every morning in the school hall at 6.45 am to 7.19am.
We will utilise this these sessions by practicing on our expression, body language, entrance and exit - The exit during Achievement Day was a total disaster!

Let us thank Bvlyn and Esther for printing the pics taken on Achievement Day out, and pasting them on the white cards. The photos are pinned on the noticeboard in AVA. =)

Hello people, let me now condense all the announcement into a post that is relatively short and sweet.

1) Choir practice on Monday
Please gather in the AVA by 4pm
Attendance is compulsory, only SRP/competition/MC will be excused.

2) Achievement Day Full-run Rehearsal on Tuesday
Please gather in the AVA by 3pm
Attendance is compulsory, only prized winner/MC will be excused.
Warm-up must be done latest by 3.35pm, we have to be at the hall by 3.40pm.

3) Achievement Day Full-run Rehearsal on Wednesday
Be at the AVA by 3pm
Attendance is compulsory, only prized winner/MC/SRP will be excused.
Warm-up must be done latest by 4.10pm, we have to be at the hall by 4.15pm.

4) Achievement Day Full dress Rehearsal on Friday
Be at the AVA by 2pm,
with uniform+make up+hairdo+anything and everything that have to be done.
Warm-up to be done before meeting at the hall at 2.30pm.

Achievement Day will be on 3 April'09.
We will be singing Natsu and Where there is Light in the Soul.
As you can see, we are very very very short of time.
Schedule on Friday is really really really packed.
So please, take initiative and prevent time wastage on Friday by doing warm-ups on your own, getting everything (yes, everything) done by 2pm.

Juniors and choir mates who have just joined us, please rmb to get your shoes.
And peeps, please be kind souls by passing the message around especially to peeps who were away/on MC today. Your help will be greatly appreciated. (^-^)

Practice on FRIDAY the 13th
Sectionals: 1pm to 3pm
Combine: 3pm to 5pm

This is what we discussed during today's practice (before Miss Ong came) :
What to do when you:
- have asthma attack on stage...?
Save the person please!!! Quoted from Miss Rozi: "The person's life is more important than SYF!"

- want to sneeze....?
Look down and cover your mouth as you sneeze.

- fall down....?
Get up and continue walking as though nothing happened.. =)

- faint on stage....?
SAVE THAT PERSON!!!

- want to cough...?
Control and try not to cough. Only cough after finish singing.

- want to throw up....?
Cover your mouth, for god's sake!

- have a tummy upset....?
Prevention is better than cure. You should not have eaten something that will upset your stomach.

- have hiccups....?
Stop singing. We don't want to hear funny voices on stage. -.-

- itch....?
Stroke the area quickly and settle it without affecting your singing.

- let out gas....?
Don't laugh. Seriously. The smell will diffuse itself quickly.

Just stop singing because you can't see Miss Ong conducting. Don't scream, please.

Hey, Choir!

Here to give you guys the 411 on Choir matters:

1. SYF is on 17 April. Although it's on one of the first few days of the SYF, we're coming in in the afternoon. So unlike the previous SYF, we don't have to wke up bright and early to prepare. Don't fret, Choir. Our dream of Gold is not that far away. We can do it!

2. Thanks to Gregory, we can now download Where There is Light in the Soul and Natsu into our computers. Thanks a million! :DD

3. The sec 1s and 2s will be going to OLE until Wednesday. We'll miss them, won't we? So let's work hard so that they have something to look forward to on Friday. :)

4. Achievement Day is on 3rd April. For the newcomers, this will good exposure for you guys. Seniors, it's time to tell our buddies the "Dos and Don'ts" of performing on stage.

5. There'll be another audition at the end of this month. All the best to everyone! For those who have been asked to "don't sing first" while we were practising, this will be a great opportunity. If you guys need help, please seek the help of your SLs and ASLs.

Hey, everyone!

Just a few reminders and questions of the week:

1. Be more disciplined. AI Choir, what are we aiming for? How old are all of you? Really?

2. Listen to The White Horses everyday. It's our set piece. Let's do justice to this song, okay?

3. Listen to the committee members. We only want what's best for you and ultimately, the whole choir.

4. Listen to Ms Ong. She's giving us her all. Are you?

5. Do your essay on the musical, Cats. And next time, be more disciplined. The people who actually behaved themselves are suffering on your account.

6. Pay your choir fund. If you have any problems please come and see Sabrina Lee or any of the committee members. It'll be $3.00 on Monday.

7. Be more confident. MS Ong says that pitch-wise, we are good. So be confident and just sing it.

8. Be more alive and respond when you're asked questions. Do you guys seriously think we like talking to walls???

9. Take care of your health. Are you taking your vitamins everyday?

And most importantly,

10. Love choir. Why did you join choir in the first place? When you remember the reason, you'll find it easier to come back to the next practice and to smile when you sing. :)

By the way, this is wip. As we all know, the choir has been grouped into three - P A G.

P for Publicity:

- maintain order and discipline
- stage performance (or in this case, AVA performance)
A in-charge: wip

- Overall in charge of the aesthetics and design

Please cooperate with your respective ICs. Some choristers will be involved in two or more groups, so do not be surprised to find your name in an alien group. We will assign people here and there because we need the right people, for the right job. Please utilise your talents,Thank You. Yep, please do be more pro-active and please do not "attitude" us if you are unhappy with any decisions made. It is most important that the Choir benefits as a whole, thus i would like to seek your understanding.

Volunteering spirit will be greatly appreciated. =)

(please do not be fussy because all we need is a ~~cheap~~ very affordable but presentable mask. Price: $1.80 for 10)

Each and every choristers are to make one each. That will give us 48 balloons. We will paint them red (our trademark) with some words e.g. Choir in yellow (our trademark again) and place them (most probably hanging them if thats possible) around the school leading the sec 1s to AVA room.

Miss Ong has already approved for Update 1 and Update 2. But update 2 has not yet been confirmed. We will do a voting on the next practice and will only proceed with the above plans if the majority agrees.

By the way, the G (banner) group has hung one banner. Can be seen in the school court yard. They will be coming up with two new banners soon. So we shall wait for their good news.
The G (flyer) group will be conducting a meeting tomorrow [check previous entry by Sabrina Lee] and again, we will await for your good news. =)
The P group had a met-up today and i wonder how your progress is. Hmm.

Hey, AI Choir!

Today's performance was not up to standard (our usual one, not the one our committee members set for us). I don't want to spend the whole entry blogging about this so I'll just leave it like that. I guess we are all still in the holiday mood. ~~Even I'm too lazy to collect choir funds.~~

Anyway, as we all know, CCA open house is coming up on 16 Jan 2009. So let's do our best! =)

Those under the "P" group in PAG, please remember to report at 11am tomorrow. You guys will be doing some serious wrapping so bring your best smile. I want door gifts made with love, okay? Maybe you guys could play some music while doing it. ^^

Meanwhile, those under "G", step to it. Try to get the banner ready by next week. As for the "flyer" people, remember to attend the meeting on 31 Dec 2008. See you guys outside the GO and bring your designs at 10am.

Cantare II - the final Verdict

And they LOVEEEEEEEEEEE us! =)
And i know all of us love the "ENCORE ENCORE ENCORE!"
Hahaha.

It has been months of hardwork, struggle, pain and tears for us. But not forgetting, our fun, laughter, joy and cheers. Our long and seemingly endless choir practices have indeed been paid off with the highest possible form of exaltation.

Isn't that just wonderful?

Some of us here have cried, especially on the day before the concert. I went around blog hopping and realised that many of us have been under tremendous pressure. Breaking down. But after breaking down, you guys manage to stand up strong with a cheerful face. A unclouding smile, prevailing our past set backs. Along this journey, we have grown stronger, as One Choir, One Voice, One Song.

It is after vaulting obstacles and hurdles together that makes us who we are today, as One AI Choir.

I thank you all for all the passion, love, hardwork and commitment that you guys have put in. It is with your love for singing which has inspired and touched the audience. It was apparent that the audience were enjoying, and that we also had enjoyed our moment of glory on the stage last evening.

I apologise all whom i have punished or scolded. May you all forgive me. Please.

Always remember to Sing from the heart and Dream from the Soul.
Because cantare (to sing) is where our passion lies.

After Cantare, we have one big goal.
Let us strive towards SYF!
We will not be getting a bronze again. With faith, hope and love, i believe we can all succeed!

Hello Choir,

not sure how many of you are constant readers of our very own choir blog.

There goes our first and last full-dress rehearsal at JH.
There are some things, i believe, that are very important to clarify.
As i have always said, it is not always easy to view things from every perspective; and just in case some of the choristers would be unhappy of some things (e.g. the seemingly endless scoldings), i shall blog how i personally feel about our performance today at JH.

Please memorise our vision, our mission and our weekly motto by heart.

An extract from my blog:

People initially pronounced Cantare as can-tear,
after today's full dress rehearsal, i am very worried that people would leave Jubilee Hall, tearing the tickets.

Cantare would no longer be Can-ta-ray (cantāre : To Sing!),
it would be Can-tear.

Can-tear-the-tickets.

Nvm, perhaps i should be more hopeful.
Instead of worrying much ado about nothing, maybe i should start formatting a duty roster for the committee on 16Nov. Or maybe i should attend some anger management workshop.

What shocked me the most is that ah gong actually flared up, shouting at the choir.

What angered me the most was that remark by one of the dancers.

What saddens me the most was the segregation between "dancers","performers" and "just calefares". Shouldn't we be One Choir, One World, One Voice, One Song?

What frustrated me the most was that we couldn't even snap.

*faints*

What dissapoints me the most is our discipline, our attitude, our conduct.
I felt like pulling my hair throughout the rehearsal.

This is from my perspective. So i have began imagining and thinking how you would feel from your perspectives. And these are what i had come out with:

1) AHH. That wipwip person, think she so big ar? Keep scolding us for what?
If this is what was on your mind, read the extract.

2) THAT KEEEEEEEEEERRRRRRRWIN. Graduate already still shoutshout here, shoutshout there. Think you very BIG AR?
He is our senior, one of the 2008ers, having to be in choir for a longlong time, it is understandable that he flared up. And personally, i think we deserve a world lot of lectures.

3) Damn AI CHOIR. Everyday practice practice. You think we robots meh?!
Hellooooo, as you can see from today's first and last full-dress rehearsal, we need a world lot more of practices! We are so not ready. I know that some primary school choirs actually start practising at 7.45 am to 5.00pm everyday for a week before their concerts. They have to dance and sing like us too and their lunch break is only 30mins! So which is better, you tell me? 7.45am to 5pm or 9am to 4pm?

4) Stupid __(fill in yourself)__ section, keep singing out of tune. Make us waste time.
We are One AI CHOIR, ONE VOICE, ONE SONG. So it is only naturally that we support all the sections.

5) Hell. I am only a calefare why do i still have to be punished along with the actors?
Calefares? No. There are no "calefares", "dancers", "small roles" or "actors" in our musical. Each and everyone of us is equally important.

6) They keep claiming that they understand how we feel blahblahblah. Understand, understand? Like hell they understand!
All of us, whether the committee members or seniors have been a choir member. We do understand how it feels to be like in your shoes.

7) Feel like scolding people. What the hell are we doing?!
Please approach any one of the committee members if you have anything that you are itching to get it off your chest. We would like to hear your perspectives too. =)

8) Shit! I forgot my dance steps/lyrics/lines etc.
Practice, practice, practice. Practise makes perfection reachable.

9) How come Miss Ong/Teachers/Alumni/Seniors/Com members faces so blackblack one? And they still tell us to smile when they look so grumpy!
Erm... firstly. Please be more professional. We are not only choristers, we are all performers. Smiling is a yesyes, when the audience see you smile, they will feel happier themselves too. And if you look so grumpy on stage, who would want to look at you, right? And when the audience smile, you feel happy too! (e.g. Our national day performace) And if you see any of the com members not smiling, you can smack them gently. =) Yes, permission granted.

10) Why CHINO never die?????
Yesyesyes, i know some of you are dying to know the answer to the question stated above since many of us want him to die. Pay more attention to Maria's last line "...... Kill you too?...... because i have hate....", if Chino were to die, then not fun already wad right?

List of reminders

Section 1: At-home preparation
#1: Do not eat spicy/oily/fried food. Drink lots of water to hydrate yourself. :)
Bring a water bottle to every choir practice.

#2: Memorise all your lyrics (with dynamics), dialogue, dance steps, positions on stage and where and when to enter the stage. You are responsible for your own actions.

#3: Bring only the things you need on the concert day. We are not going on a holiday so please do not bring so much as though you carrying luggage. List of things you need to bring on the concert day is below:

For the ladies
Water bottle
Choir uniform with ribbon properly pinned on
WSS clothes
Court shoes and WSS shoes (recommended to bring stockings or plasters)
Scores
Hair accessories: silver ribbon, thin elastic black hair rubber band, black clips (if needed), any other accessory for WSS and comb
Makeup and sufficient tissue

For the gents
Water bottle
Choir uniform with blue tie
WSS clothes
Black shoes, black socks and WSS shoes
Scores
Comb and hair wax (?)

*You can use the above list and check the box when you have packed each of the items.

Section 2: Preparing to go on stage
#1: Do not wear a watch.

#2: Do not wear any necklaces.

#3: For girls, do not wear ANY earrings or ear studs. You are allowed to wear only transparent EAR STICKS. It is recommended not to wear any ear accessory. :P

#4: For girls, do not use any other colour hair clips other than black.

#5: For girls, make sure your silver ribbon is still tied securely on your hair. Trust me, it's so unglam to have your ribbon falling out from your hair. >.<

Section 3: When on stage (Performing)
#1: Golden rule for all performers: SMILE! :D

#2: Do not look on the floor. Look at Ms Ong, especially when she's conducting.

#3: Do not talk on stage. Talking on stage shows how ill-disciplined you are.

#4: Do not fidget on stage. This includes scratching your hair or any other part of your body. =.=

#5: Project as loud as you can but also take note of all the dynamics (e.g. crescendo).

#6: Sing with expression and feelings.

#7: Do everything above and just enjoy performing. :D

Section 4: When on backstage
#1: Be clear of what to do and where and when to enter the stage. Remain calm and cool at all times.

#2: DO NOT TALK DO NOT TALK DO NOT TALK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Make sure you remember this point! >:(

#3: WALK QUICKLY AND QUIETLY. Have a sense of urgency.

#4: Dress quickly. There isn't much time for you to change your clothes, so hurry.

#5: Do not leave anything behind when you leave the dressing room. It's not just your belongings, it's also litter. Be responsible and also considerate.

Hey people ;

I know you guys had enough of lectures today, so I will spare you from the agony.
Just wanna say a few words and then I will move on to the reminders. :)

Okay, you must always, ALWAYS calm down whenever you meet any difficulty/confusion/trouble.
You are not being helpful to the situation if you are there screaming and arguing.
Just STAY CALM and COOL DOWN so that you can think properly.

NEVER ARGUE BACK when seniors give you directions/instructions.
The seniors know what to do and are there to help you.
So please, stay coooooooooool. :]

e.g. Today during the WSS musical, the Jet & Shark girls don't know where to assemble backstage.
Please don't snap or argue at the seniors. It is very DISRESPECTFUL and HURTING.
No one will appreciate it if you make so much "noise". :/

Okay, now we will move on to the next entry for reminders. >:]

Anyway, today's dance lesson was pretty enjoyable, although there were smiles and frowns around.
Those who are still unhappy with the dance steps, cheer up! (like me ). :P
We can clarify our doubts tomorrow and maybe Ms Ong can show us the dance steps.

As the saying goes, "practice makes perfect".
You are never too good, so continue to do your best! :D

Overall, our performance today was good, but there's still room for improvement.
Was kinda disappointed that there wasn't full attendance today, though. :(

Instructions

Posture and Relaxation

Step1 :Make sure you are standing properly and without tension.

Exercises

Step1: Be alert and listen carefully.

Step2: Say, Ma-Me-Mi-Mo-Mu, letting your breath flow evenly.

Step3: Make the transition from speaking to singing on the sounds of Ma-Me-Mi-Mo-Mu as described in "How to Do Vocal Exercises."

Step4: Sing on just one note that is comfortable for your voice range.

Step5: Listen to evenness of tone, volume and pitch on that note.

Step6: Make the sound flow evenly in a "bow stroke": (Ma...Me...Mi...Mo...Mu...)

Step7: Continue with the exercise and find the sounds you enjoy most. Use those sounds as models for the rest.

Step8: Sing Ma-Me-Mi-Mo-Mu on five different notes within a small range up and down the scale. Starting on the note C, that would be Ma = C, Me = D, Mi = E, Mo = F, Muuuuu = G-F-E-D-C.

Step9: Try not to force the sound in any way. Don't waste breath; focus is what you're after.

Step1: Close your eyes and take a few deep breaths to prepare yourself mentally for singing.
